Action : Establish a vision on insurers place in the market and put forward the necessary business and IT architecture to support this role. Plan a conceptual build up of the operating environment to support our view on the build up duration and costs
Result :  Client chose Atos as their IT-provider
  


 

Assignment : Business development Health Insurance market
Constituent : System Integration Atos Origin Nederland
Position : Business developer & Senior Business consultant
Situation : Atos Origin set up a team with insurance specialists involved in business development. The branches within insurance are divided amongst the specialists as well as a number of large accounts.
Task : Development of propositions for the health insurance market, solution management on answering RFI and RFP and solution architect on implementation of outsourcing for insurers. Improve image of Atos Origin towards insurers about insurance industry knowledge.
Action : Contribution to formation of a team of 7 insurance experts. Develop Atos Origin wide (consultancy, software development and outsourcing of software and hardware) outsourcing solution for health insurers. Involved as an insurance expert in account discussions and account planning of insurance accounts. Join account executives visiting insurance customers.
Result : Sales selling sourcing (ASP/ITO) for insurers. Improvement of account plan sales for 2 major insurers. More requests by customers for insurance knowledge.

 

Assignment : Business development verzekeringsmarkt
Constituent : System Integration Atos Origin Nederland
Position : Solution manager Insurance
Situation : RFI and RFP of medium-sized insurer on provision of a fully outsourced environment consisting of insurance administration, financial management and reporting capabilities.
Task : Designing a complete solution for the customer. Detailed response to the RFP by specialists.
Action : Setting up cooperation for the quotation with foreign software vendor of an insurance administration. Preparing workshops with and final presentation for the customer. Managing the answering by colleagues and employees of the foreign partner.  Guarding a consistent solution in the answering of RFI and RFP. Responsible for obtaining pricing information from the foreign partner, from colleagues and vendors of standard software packages. Calculation of pricing with accountant.
Result : The solution was 2nd with competitors like Accenture and IBM (4th and 3rd respectively).

 

Assignment : Develop and implement new non life product (MultiZeker polis)
Constituent : Board of division Non Life ASR
Position : Businesarchitect
Situation : ASR introduces a new non life product on the market for individuals
Task : Guide product development of a non life product. Development of insurance product model for determining ASR reusable product components. Describe product lifecycle of insurance products. Describing product development and deployment processes per phase in the life cycle. Designing templates for use during the product lifecycle for development and deployment of insurance products. Describe organization development and deployment. Identify necessary skills of officials and describe necessary training requirements.
Action : Workshops with experts of claims handling for development of the features of the product. Workshops with product specialists aiming at reusable product components. Intermediate between ASR and eBaoTech on product specifications and the technical possibilities and impossibilities of the chinese (eBaoTech) insurance administration. Motivating a multicultural team of people from China, India, Malaysia, Switzerland and Germany. Literally and conceptually translating the insurance needs of ASR to the (on Asian products knowledge based) technical product model of eBaoTech.
Result : A team of product specialists who formerly threw their new product wishes over the wall towards IT, now trained as a team in an agile insurance administration commissioning their own insurance products .

 

Assignment : Proof of Concept eBaoTech (Chinese insurance administration)
Constituent : Board of division Non life ASR
Position : Businesarchitect
Situation : ASR is considering a new insurance administration called eBaoTech replacing 4 legacy systems
Task : Assess product model of eBaoTech. Capturing the configuration decisions, configuration process, discussions, and the impact on the insurance product design. Determination of effects on product deployment process by using eBaoTech.
Action : On the basis of previous experience with product architecture and a configurable system, assess the usability of eBaoTech for complex Non life products.
Result : Advice on setting up a default product implementation process with description templates for product and configuration, a new organisation with appropriate roles for implementation of eBaoTech and use of new products in the future. Choice of ASR for eBaoTech in the launch of a new yet to be developed non life product.

 

Assignment : Vision of “Company” board on the use of client account numbers
Constituent : Steering group  “Problems base registration”
Position : Businesarchitect
Situation : The “Company” has problems with payments due to the inaccuracy of account numbers in the chaos after merging legacy administrations
Task : Develop a shared vision on board level how to deal with clients using their account numbers. Stake is aiming to use one account per customer .
Action : Research on the problems of account numbers by interviewing the relevant division directors and key stakeholders. Determine what may be a solution of the problem in the medium and long term.
Result : Advisory report to board of “Company”.

 

Assignment : Research use of CWI-system voor monitoring reintegration clients
Constituent : Division board of “employability disabled” (Arbeidsgeschiktheid AG) UWV
Position : Research leader/business architect
Situation : CWI (partner of UWV in the reintegration chain) developed system SONAR (obv Siebel) for client monitoring. UWV Division Unemployment (WW) already adopted this system and prepares application changes. Division employability (AG) as the largest Division is now considering to follow WW to use this system for monitoring reintegration.
Task : Guiding researchers from the AG-business to compare wishes/demands with improvement (im-) possibilities. Protect business architectural choices for the system Purchase reintegration (SIR).
Action : Design cooperation/interfacing between SONAR and SIR in process models, data models and system architecture in workshops with architects of project SONAR, of WW and AG.
Result : Report for the division board on using SONAR and the consequences for SIR.

 

Assignment : Research on implementation of architecture improvements of a purchase system for reintegration
Constituent : Project board Re-integratie van Divisie Arbeidsgeschiktheid UWV
Position : Architect/research leader
Situation : My previous research (August 2005 – December 2005) showed that the system SIR is unsuitable for the chosen goals by Division “employability disabled” for this system. This research also provided architectural improvement proposals and there are changes coming in the chain of CWI, UWV and municipalities like the introduction of a system called SONAR.
Task : In cooperation with divisions “employability of disabled” (AG), “unemployment” (WW) and “purchase reintegration” (IR) detailing the architecture improvements and examine deployment capabilities of these improvements in the organisations chain of CWI, UWV and municipalities.
Action : Design of the cooperation between systems of divisions WW and AG. Consultation with third parties relating to the maintenance and capacity for customization of SIR. Consultation with project SONAR and Division WW about future plans of use system SONAR in the chain of organisations.
Result : A new research assignment to investigate options for integration with a system of CWI called SONAR.

 

Assignment : Conversion of policies and products.
Constituent : Board of Delta Lloyd Zorg
Position : Architect
Situation : Health insurers are facing a new health insurance act. Formerly private insurances and sickness fund policies are combined making sure that Dutch citizen gets a basic health insurance with, where appropriate, supplementary insurance. The offer letter (quote), each Dutchman in mid-December 2005 on the mat to have lying around (third deadline).
Task : Information analysis and planning for delivering quotations on the basic health insurance. Risk analysis on conversion of policies from old to new insurance administration (Oracle OpenZorg).
Action : Data analysis on supplying systems to generate the quotations. Design and planning of conversion of data from old policy systems to the new health insurance administration. Ensure that the whole team speaks only one language instead of the terms from the old environments (causing confusion in the project communication). Coaching of a junior project member.
Result : Successful policy conversion and mailing of quotations to the prospective customers of Delta Lloyd and Ohra.

 

Assignment : Research options for setting up an outsourcing cooperation for Non-life insurers
Constituent : Board of Aquila and potential partners (Ordina, IBM, Ewijcks groep)
Position : Architect en workshopfacilitator
Situation : Aquila sees opportunities for setting up outsourcing factory for non-life insurers and examines this with different IT sourcing parties.
Task : Drafting business plans with potential partners for an outsource organization. Research on design options. Research communication extensions on the basis of GIM/XML for the benefit of integration with customers and third parties. Develop cooperation with remaining partner.
Action : Workshops with potential partners on the product, the market potential and the collaborative capabilities. Develop a business case on the basis of potential customers, operational costs, savings potential for these customers and the merits of the partners.
Result : Plan for cooperation to submit to the Executive Board of the partner, first draft of presentation to a potential customer and the business case for the partners on the basis of a comprehensive calculation model (Excel).

 

Assignment : Development of cost reduction models for financial institutions
Constituent : Management IG&H (intern)
Position : Architect
Situation : Based on market experience IG&H sees opportunities to advise customers the implementation of insurance administrations for savings potential reasons
Task : Drafting of computational models for optimal FTE occupation in a backoffice
Action : Design a calculation model, which includes information about the operation of a customer volumes leading to necessary FTE numbers. Drawing up workflows in workshops with IG&H-product specialists for life, pension, injury and mortgages and conclude every flow with expected running time. Drafting of computational models in Excel based on drawn up workflows and run times. Train project colleagues in advanced, methodical design and architecture of Universal Life-insurance.
Result : Calculation model for visiting a customer to show savings potential.

 

Assignment : Outsourcing back office
Constituent : Projectmanager Outsourcing Robeco
Position : Business Modeller / consultant to Business Architect / Coordinator Outsourcing Insurance
Situation : The maintenance costs of the product administration of Robeco Direct get out of hand. Outsourcing to specialized parties is initiated: Pink Roccade for Insurance, Stater for Mortgages and Rabobank Netherlands Securities for Investment.
Task : Acquire van RFP requirements based on UML process modelling. Manage communication between Robeco and Pink Roccade.
Action : Modelling processes with insurance, mortgage and investment business professionals in UML schemas (Rational Rose). Distribution of customer processes in a collaboration architecture of specialised outsource parties. Moderate implementation workshops of insurance outsource party and business professionals. Preparation of implementation scenarios and business cases for the benefit of an outsourcing plan. Preparing opinions of Architecture board and preparing business and deployment decisions of decision board. Draft RFP questions. Analyse and interpret RFP answers of outsource parties by using implementation scenarios for the consequences.
Result : Imply progress in a modelling process based on a modelling method called SIM. Consulting a business architect on decomposition of complex integrated financial products (insurance, mortgage, investments) and consulting on outsourcing the product components. The outsourcing parties were not allowed to communicate data amongst each other. Taking part in advice to the board. The complexity of sourcing the integrated products where the parties could only source components and Robeco wanted to source complete products made it impossible to source to PinkRoccade for insurance.
